As it relates to dementia, we know there are risk factors but we don’t know if things like diabetes are risk factors for Alzheimer’s— researchers haven’t quite started to look at differences between men and women with relation to how it impacts dementia later on. One example that we do know that research is pointing towards pregnancy and how there are things that happen during pregnancy like hypertension disorders and preeclampsia that are associated with dementia later on and also increase risk for cardiovascular events.
