On Friday April 28 at 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET, NYU’s Dr. Mary S. Mittelman joins Being Patient to discuss her work on community interventions — such as memory choirs — for caregivers and people living with dementia.
Mittelman, an epidemiologist, is a research professor in the NYU School of Medicine department of psychiatry. She has been working on the development and evaluation of psychosocial interventions for people with cognitive impairment and their family members for over two decades. For 20 years, she was the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded study of the NYU Caregiver Intervention (NYUCI).
Over the past decade, Mittelman has been working on these interventions in collaboration with people living with dementia and with caregivers. In particular, she is the founder of the memory choir, The Unforgettables. Her work inspired the creation of The Amazing Grace Chorus. Tune in Friday for more insights on her work with community intervention for dementia, memory choirs included.
