Want a Diet That Reduces Dementia Risk? Diversify
A number of studies have shown that eating a healthier diet — green leafy vegetables, berries, nuts, whole grains, fish — may reduce dementia…
While Alzheimer’s disease isn’t curable, gold-standard studies show it may be preventable, or postponable, through lifestyle factors like diet. Some diets — like high cholesterol, high-sugar diets with lots of processed foods — have been linked to higher risk of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Some healthier diets like the Mediterranean diet, as well as individual components of diets like olive oil, fish, antioxidants and certain nutrients, have been linked to lower risk. However, it’s very difficult to measure the link between diet and Alzheimer’s risk over time, because there are so many other aspects of health and lifestyle that factor in, including health issues like obesity, vascular issues and more.
