Research is starting to look at sex differences and the NIH is now mandating reseachers use both sexes in their studies or justify why if they aren’t. While we haven’t gotten to many answers, myself along with some other researchers at the Society for Women’s Health Research wrote a review looking at sex differences in research and in Alzheimer’s. We don’t understand how all these risk factors and hormones are affecting risk over the lifespan- they might be exerting their risk at different points in time and so we need to do more life courses and longitudinal studies to figure this out.
