Is it possible to “catch up on sleep” after a period of sleep deprivation?

You can’t make up for a night of sleep completely, but with that being said, if you are sleep deprived during the weekdays and binge on the weekends, it would be better to binge than to not binge. It is good to recover to some degree, but you’ll never fully get that sleep that you’ve lost back.
