Are there any everyday brain exercises to keep the brain sharp?

I think that in the realm of cognitive games that are dependent on your own motivation and activity are by the far the best evidence for successful exercise. Physical exercise is beneficial, more so then brain games, as it can cut your risk of getting dementia in half. Brain games on the other hand can only train your brain in one specific area and may not contribute to lowering your risk.
