When you start to look at the effects on animals in particular, there’s a very good basis to suggest that when used appropriately, psychedelics can actually enhance learning, enhance cognitive function, there’s lots of different types of learning and memory, so this is sort of a task dependent that’s been discovered. We’re seeing things around working memory, object consolidation, fear memory, that suggest that when you’re administering psychedelics to animals in these lab models of learning, that if you do it at the right time, in these critical windows, you can actually improve the learning and the memory process, and that you can help them to unlearn maladaptive behaviors. There’s definitely some very important function of the serotonin 2A receptor which is one of the principal areas where the psychedelics work in terms of memory and learning, and so we’re just starting to tease that apart now.
