The best questions to ask are, “How can we keep this person comfortable and maximize the quality of life that they have today, and for the next few days?” and “How can we best maintain their comfort, their dignity and what they would want?” I know it’s really difficult if you’re abroad and you need to know timeframes, but it’s important not to get caught up with this “How long have we got?” question. It’s about focusing on the person and their needs, their previously expressed wishes and maintaining their comfort and the quality of the life that they have left.
