Being Patient’s 2023 in Review

By | January 8th, 2024

It's been a big year for our little journalism organization and community platform. Here are some of the things our team is proud of having accomplished in 2023.

It’s been a big year for our little journalism organization and community platform. In 2023, our readership grew by at least 2 million people, who sought us out for our trusted news reporting and science-backed explainers on brain health, cognitive science, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Our stories were viewed more than 8 million times this year by readers in more than 200 countries and territories, especially the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India.

This year, we were grateful to be able to host 46 leading scientists, doctors, patients, and caregivers in our Live Talk series. These live interviews have been watched more than a million times on our YouTube channel. Viewers spent more than 43, 000 hours learning from these experts. In one of our most watched videos of 2023, biogerontologist Dr. Valter Longo shared his research on fasting and brain health.

In another, occupational therapist and caregiving expert Teepa Snow invited our community to ask their most pressing caregiving questions in an “Ask Me Anything.”

This year, our team grew the way we share information and tell stories. We built our Learning team, and launched a series of interactive guides on topics like dementia prevention, the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease, and the science of neurodegeneration.

Stay tuned, we have more guides on the way in 2024. Without you, none of this would be possible. From our team, thank you to our community for tuning in this year, reading our stories, and sharing your experiences with us in the comments.

We look forward to keeping this momentum going in this new year and to continuing to build a bridge between the world of doctors, scientists and drug developers and the unsung experts: the families living with dementia everyday.

If you find our articles and interviews helpful, please consider becoming a supporting member of our community. Frustrated by the lack of an editorially independent source of information on brain health and Alzheimer’s disease, we decided to create Being Patient. We are a team of dedicated journalists covering the latest research on Alzheimer’s, bringing you access to the experts and elevating the patient perspective on what it’s like to live with dementia.

Please help support our mission.
